Reflections on Workplace Bias

There are obviously STILL injustices in the workplace. Fortunately, these days, more laws are being enacted and company policies are being changed to "accomodate" the GLBT Community.

Looking back, times have, indeed, changed, Several years ago, before I transitioned, I had an extremely "straight" job, and went to great lengths to "protect" myself. Oddly enough, I lost that job, NOT because of poor performance, but because I was seen cross dressed at a Gay bar by another company employee, figure that one out. When I was fired, THAT was the reason I was given. It didn't do much to help my career, back then, as word soon spread throughout the industry.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is I didn't cause any trouble (I DID cry when I got home), I just picked myself up and life went on. I'm not always sure I made the right decision, but times WERE different ---> THEN. Had it happened in today's society, I certainly would have handled the situation much differently.

I guess I'm just being in a reflective mood. I usually don't get too "personal" in this Blog, so I thought I'd share that story.
